Is the Mercedes EQS the Best Luxury Electric Saloon in 2025?
Mercedes EQS Saloon Review: Luxury, Tech, and a Different Kind of EV Experience
Most car reviews from enthusiasts love to focus on 0–60 times, top speed, and Nürburgring lap records—but the Mercedes EQS Saloon isn’t built for that audience. And honestly, that was a refreshing change of pace for me.
This car isn’t trying to be a sports EV that snaps your neck every time you accelerate. Instead, it’s a luxury saloon packed with tech, comfort, and a sense of calm that most modern EVs completely ignore. After spending a day with it, here’s what stood out.
Luxury First, Speed Second
Yes, it’s still quick, electric motors make sure of that, but the EQS doesn’t feel like it’s showing off. Power delivery is smooth, refined, and deliberately not as aggressive as most performance EVs. You still get that instant torque when you need it, but it’s designed to keep you comfortable rather than pressed back into your seat.
Headlights Smarter Than Most Drivers
One of the coolest features? The Digital Light headlights. They can selectively block parts of the high beam so you don’t blind oncoming traffic, while still lighting up the road perfectly. Driving around narrow Devon lanes at night, it felt like the car was thinking ahead for me.
Comfort That Actually Feels Luxurious
The ride quality is exceptional, even on those big 22s. Road noise is almost nonexistent, and the cabin feels like it was built for long-distance travel. It’s easily one of the most relaxing cars I’ve been in recently.
Tech That’s Fun (Yes, Fun!)
Luxury cars often have loads of tech you never touch, but the EQS actually makes it enjoyable. The passenger screen lets you play Tetris, which sounds silly, but when you’re waiting for a charge, it’s a great distraction.
Rear-Wheel Steering Feels Weird… At First
The rear-wheel steering makes parking and tight turns ridiculously easy, but the first few corners feel strange—almost like the car is pivoting under you. After a while, though, it feels natural, and for a car this big, it’s a lifesaver.
